Renewable Energy
Current sustainable energy expertise at TUV NEL can be characterised as Large or Small Scale Renewable.
Large Scale Renewables
TUV NEL has made significant contributions to the development of renewable energy technology. These have included the development and testing of large scale hydroelectric equipment, pioneering research into wave and tidal energy systems and performance evaluation of all types of wind energy conversion systems. Our independence and depth of experience our results are trusted globally; which means we are in demand as collaborative R & D partners with the largest companies in the field.
Small Scale Renewables
The development and testing of small wind turbines still constitutes a significant portion of our activities in this area. The
Small Scale Wind Turbine Club
gives access to
Myres Hill
and the
Energy Technology Centre
(ETC) for clients looking to address issues around performance verification, testing and development. TUV NEL also provides wind tunnel access to accelerate the testing process.
Fuel cells and hydrogen technology are another area of interest to TUV NEL, a founder member of the Scottish Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association. We are also involved in a number of projects relating to the extraction of energy from biomass feedstock. In addition, TUV NEL is active in solar thermal and micro CHP technologies.
Test Site
Since 1984, TUV NEL has operated a wind turbine test site at
Myres Hill
, close to our East Kilbride facility.
Research & Development
TUV NEL manages Scotland's
Energy Technology Centre
- a specialist facility that provides support and technical resources intended to realise the commercial potential of new energy related products and technologies.
