Modelling and Simulation
Computer modelling and simulation are powerful techniques used to predict the three dimensional behaviour of fluids and process components. Our expertise lines in combining practical test and field experience with modelling results to produce practical solution to challenging problems.
There are two principal techniques which we utilise:
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies the flow of liquids, gases, particles, and mixtures of all three, through engineering components and the environment. CFD is a well proven technique, used to improve and optimise products and processes. It can be particularly effective in product design, failure investigation and detailed flow behaviour studies involving complex and inaccessible flows. CFD has a number of practical advantages over physical testing especially when high pressure, hot, cold or toxic fluids are involved or where precise control is required.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a technique used to measure the impact of forces on equipment and structures. It can be used to determine structural integrity and identify levels of deflection, distortion and vibration. FEA can provide valuable insights allowing clients to recognise weaknesses, improve safety margins, control vibrations and extend the life of operating equipment.
Beyond these two methods, we use a range of other modelling and simulation techniques. These include:-
Multiphysical analysis incorporating CFD, FEA and other tests.
Our own HTFS software to investigate the thermal properties of processes and components.
Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling to examine the impact of the external environment on the flow of emissions.
