Plant Performance

Performance Guarantees for Energy from Waste and Energy Recovery Processes

Energy recovery facilities must go through a series of tests to demonstrate that they meet reliability availability and performance guarantees in accordance with the Waste Incineration Directive (2000/76/EC) and environmental permitting requirements.  It is essential that these guarantees are met prior to the handover of the plant to the eventual owner so that they, in turn, may finalise plant commissioning and acceptance.

Our test teams carry out the measurements in accordance with FDBR, European and British standards including:

  • FDBR-RL 7 2000:04 - Acceptance Testing of Waste Incineration Plants with Grate Firing Systems
  • BS EN 12952-15 - Water-tube boilers and auxiliary installations, Acceptance tests
  • MCERTS – Flue gas measurements

We assess the following plant performance characteristics: NEL Environmental - Plant Performance

  • Availability
  • Reliability
  • Guaranteed Performance
  • Waste throughput
  • Net power output
  • Abatement efficiency
  • Environmental compliance

Our on-site measurement procedures include:

  • Determination of thermal capacity
  • Boiler as calorimeter test
  • Combustion conditions test
  • Consumables consumption
  • Furnace residence time test
  • Ash quality sampling
  • Flue gas characterisation measurements
