NEL undertakes environmental engineering research and development across key environmental areas including carbon capture and storage (CCS), produced water, oil-in-water and emissions to air.

Much of this work is focussed on support for regulation and the development of appropriate legislation and standards.

Current environmental engineering research and development projects include:

Carbon capture and storage
Stack emissions
The development of data to assess new oil-in-water analysis method measurements
The development of a CFD model to determine the measurement error on a number of flare gas meter installations.

Carbon Capture and Storage - Scottish Enterprise
NEL’s research activities in Carbon Capture and Storage have been included in Scottish Enterprise’s recently-published document “Carbon Capture and Storage- Opportunities for Scotland” (see page 7) which sets out the potential for CCS in Scotland. Scotland is currently taking a world-leading role in the development of CCS technologies which offer massive economic opportunities. Click here to access the report.
