Standards

A key dissemination route for much of the research in the Engineering and Flow Programme is through the development of new and existing standards.

Within the Engineering and Flow Programme, a number of NMI staff, many of whom are world-recognised technical experts, are involved in both national and international standards committees.

To influence the direction of UK and International forums, these technical experts disseminate the outputs of Programme research.

They also support Government and industry by providing independent expertise, supporting fair trade and providing technical leadership in priority areas for Government.

Activties include:

Chair and representation of top-level international, national, sector-based and industry standard Committees, and convening Working Groups.
Production of new standards and incorporating results of research into significant upgrades to existing standards.
Harmonisation of standards to ensure consistency.
Providing significant technical expertise and support at national (BSI) and international (ISO, OIML) level for development of new and existing standards.
